Case Based Learning (Cbl)

By CBL it meants CASE BASED LEARNING. It’s is a small group, case-basedlearning. It is the dominant learning mode in the early years of the medical school.

Using a case-based learning approach in medical education helps health professionals to be engaged in discussions of specific case scenarios that resembles real world examples. 

  • This method is learner-centered.
  • Its creates an intense interaction between participants to build their knowledge and work together as a group.
  • This sharing and discussion on real world scenarios help medical professional gaining quick and sound knowledge.
  • It also creates an environment of working together as a TEAM.

A case is a “problem,” Ellet in 2007 suggests that most of the cases entail one of four types of situations:

  • Problems
  • Decisions
  • Evaluations
  • Rules

The purpose of a case study in clinical teaching is to record clinical interactions which helps medical professional to frame questions for rigorously designed clinical education.

In medical profession case studies are an invaluable record of our clinical practices.

These provide valuable teaching material and demonstrate both classical and unusual presentations which practitioners confront in their clinical practices.

CBL has drawn a lot of attention in medical education.It is a student-centered model of medical teaching that exposes students to realworld situations for which they must find answer susing their theoretical knowledge and reasoning abilities.

Case-based learning, When compared to other techniques,case based learning (CBL) increases academic performance of medical undergraduate students. It also improves their capacity to analyze and make decisions about clinical cases. In conclusion case-based learning( CBL) is an active teaching method.
